Another night of great racing was put into the books Saturday night at Crystal Motor Speedway Saturday night on a beautiful summer evening. All six divisions were on hand and the night was sponsored by Family Electronics of Alma.
The night got rolling with the Engine Pro IMCA Modifieds. On the first lap, Chad Wernette jumped out to an early lead while points leader Bowen blew a motor coming down the back stretch of the first lap, ending his night. Brad Roberts moved up to second with AJ Ward and Flinn III following. Most of the race was all Wernette and he went on to win over Roberts, Ward, Josh Borton, Joe Fowler, Brody Bowser, Roger Flinn III, Melvin Allen, Greg Wiles, and Chad Burke. Borton took the B Main with heat gold going to Bowser, Buzz Lawrence, and Ward
The Kentucky Fried Chicken sponsored Late Model feature got off to a rough start with two major accidents, highlighted by Justin McNeil ending up on his roof in turn one. Brock Cogswell was also involved in that incident and was shook up but both were unhurt. Kurt Mesman led most of the early race but had to battle Tom Dusen nearly every turn. Dusen finally got a good run on Mesman and was able to get under him to take the lead. Ryan VanderVeen rolled to second leaving Mesman to fight with Matt Pickard for third. Mark Andersen began to push for position and Dean Huizenga came on hard with a strong run at the end. Dusen went on to win VanderVeen, Huizenga, Pickard, Andersen, Mesman, Bill Beardslee, Mickey Carman, Jr., Liz Patterson, and CJ Reisbig. Carman won the B Main and heat wins went to Mesman, Reisbig, and Rusty Seaver.
The Smokers Club of Mt Pleasant Street stocks saw the top three points leaders rise to the top again and take the top three positions. Mike Vandermark Jr. took the lead about lap seven of the event with Jasen Wiley and Kyle Prochazka tight behind. With three to go, Kyle Thomas was about to be lapped and he spun right in front of the leaders. Vandermark managed to avoid him completely and Wiley just brushed him but was able to continue. Vandermark won, followed by Wiley, Prochazka, George Wease, Robert Town, Brook Ann Brasington, Mike Chlebek, Luke Sickles, Tim Buskirk, and Al Kiester. Roger Stewart won the B Main while heat wins went to Vandermark and Kevin Rohn.
Cory Burch grabbed the early lead in the Races On The Web 24/7 Flinn Stock division but Richard Melton came charging forward and began to push him for the lead. Chance Allen and Lee Zahm followed in a hard battle for third. A continuous dog fight ensued right to the end as Burch, Allen and Melton came nose to tail right down to the checker with Burch winning over Melton, Zahm, Allen, Austin Bean, Ryan Paradise, Chris DeCamp, Neil Zeigler, Melton, Matt Kammers, and Taylor Daniels.
Rick Edmister was the early leader of the Port City Racing Pro Stock event with Jake Headley tight behind. Edmister was running a good line but ended up spinning and handing the lead to Headley. Brian Craigmyle picked up second and began to challenge Headley but Chaney Newland had worked his way forward and began to work over the front two cars. Newland slipped under both of them and took the lead and began to pull away. Ryan Kent also began to work forward and with just a few laps to go, he was running third. Newland went on to win over Ryan Kent, Barry Rinard, Headley Rodney Heikkila, Todd Bush, Jimmy Hale, Jr., Doug McKeown, Sr., Scott Bouck, and Bret Hollenbeck. Rinard and Edmister took heat wins.
The Port City Racing Pro Truck feature was the last event of the night and Dave Peters jumped out to a comfortable lead. He was followed by Gaven Parks, Carl Thayer, and Nate Jones. Thayer finally edged out Parks for second and with five laps to go, Thayer slid under Peters for the lead. A last lap caution bunch the field and when the green fell, Thayer jumped out front once again to win over Verhaar, Parks, Peters, Tim Sooy, Ashlee Scott, Tim Wood, Scott Nieman, Jones, and Gary Dancer. Peters won the heat race.
