Get Well Soon Verwayne Greenhoe

From the CMS Website

Big V - Condition Update

(July 11) - Some of you know, but others do not. Verwayne had returned to Michigan early Friday for a consult with several doctors, one of them his cardiologist. While enroute to that appointment he fell very ill and ended up first at the Ionia Hospital ER and was transported almost immediately to Sparrow Hospital Cardiac Intenstive Care Unit. He's stable, but unable to have vistors because of infection hazards.

He will likely be inpatient for an extended period. Results, photos, etc. will still be posted on the Crystal Motor Speedway websie, but it will take much longer. Sorry for any inconvenience this causes you.

I-96 Back in Action

Lake Odessa, MI. (7/7/09)
By Richard Bila

After taking the July fourth weekend off, I-96 Speedway is ready to return to racing action this week on July 11.
The Nesmith Ultimate Late Models powered by GM performance parts return to the big ½ mile track, with a great point’s battle heating up. Rick Stout has a 46 pint lead over Jeff Kohn heading into this week’s action. Roger Wing is 64 points behind his teammate Stout, Mike Nugent is 66 points behind and Bill Trueblood Jr. is 68 points behind Stout. In fact, the top 12 in points are less than 100 points behind.

In UMP modifieds, Todd Feutz has been the most consistent racer by far this year in the mod squad action. Feutz has an 80 point lead over Mark Anderson. Up and coming Travis Stemler, who continues to improve each week is in third place 98 points behind. Jacob Poel, who also is having a good year, is 193 points behind and Steve Shellenberger, who also is running some of the best he has run, is in fifth 199 behind.

Racing on the reshaped 3/8 mile track has been real exciting as well. The street stocks have had full fields the whole year, and the racing as been great. AJ Ward has a slim 14 point lead over Aaron Wolf. The two have battled all year, and it looks like the point title is going down to the wire. Cody Denny is 104 back, Ronald Wiers is 112 back and Ron Chaffee is 214 back.

Also on the 3/8’s track are the Micro Sprints. Third generation racer Derek Donaldson is currently just 12 points over Jay Steinebach. Nick Nelson is 24 back, AL Halbert 29 back and Jason Holibaugh is just 46 back.

The entry level four cylinder front wheal drive road beater division finds John Primm leading Rob Nieman by 32 points. Terry Henderson 59 back, Scott Rumsey 71 and Ben Fust 136 points back.

Plan on joining us this Saturday night July 11th for our regular 5 divisions of racing!

Mark your calendars now for NASCAR night August 15, with the return of SPEED channel commentator and Nationwide driver Kenny Wallace make his return to I-96 Speedway to race. Wallace currently sits 13th in points.

Keep up to date by checking www.i96speedway.com.

I-96 Speedway is located off of interstate 96 at exit 64. Go south ½ mile to Portland road, than west on Portland road one mile to the track.

Berlin Raceway Storyline: July 4th

Justin Regnerus gets third victory of season
Nester, Ensing and Kleis also win

Marne, MI— Well over 5,000 fans decided to spend their Fourth of July at Berlin Raceway and they were treated to an action-packed show. Taking home the trophies were Justin Regnerus (Kerkstra Services Pro Stocks), Brian Nester (USA Modifieds), Gabe Ensing (Young Guns) and Ben Kleis (Burnips Equipment 4-Cylinder).

The Kerkstra Services Pro Stocks took the grid first, #00 Dennis Mann started on the pole with #26 Brian Thome on his outside. After just one lap, caution was out for a wreck in turn three involving #61 Richard DeJong, #29 Jeremy Munniksma and #52 Mike Sherrington. After a few laps of racing, caution was out again for a two-car spin with Thome and #88 Tony Davis. On the restart, #36 Ken Smith, Jr. was looking three-wide for the lead and on lap 7, he took it. The car on the move was the #50 of Justin Regnerus. After getting fast time and starting 11th, he made his was up to second, stalking Smith for the lead. Regnerus was working the outside and made the pass for the lead on lap 16. Regnerus was pulling away, leaving Smith falling into the clutches of #76 Brian Tillema and #76 Ryan Gruppen. The race was slowed again on lap 23 when #X Matt VanHorssen went off of the backstretch. On the double-file restart, Tillema and Gruppen were side by side, but they quickly got single-file to work on Smith. Lap 28 saw the fourth caution of the night, a wreck involving #81 Marc Coleman, #00 Dennis Mann and #97.9 Ryan Schnabel; this also brought out the second red flag of the night. With 12 laps to go, the race resumed and from the drop of the flag, Regnerus was checking out. Caution came out again with five to go for the spinning vehicle of VanHorssen and that bunched the field back up. Regnerus was able to keep distance from Tillema and notched his third win of the season. The rest of the top ten were Gruppen, Smith, #20 Dave Hull, #7 Kevin DeGood, Davis, #40 Dave Cutler, #89 Kirk Meissner and Thome.

In the USA Modified feature, #11 Brian Nester and #89 Mike Brooks made up the front row and Nester was dominant from the start as he began lapping cars on lap 7. The first caution of the race happened on lap 15, #121 Kyle Jones spun. On the restart, Nester took off again, putting over three seconds on the field by lap 27. The battle to watch was for second between the cars of #81 Jake Meyerink, Jones and #78 Travis Eddy. The cars raced without incident until lap 45 for the slow car of #32 Dan Laughan. Trying to restart, the #9 of Steve Curry spun and when they tried to restart again, second place Meyerink hit the turn 2 wall. After a red flag, the race resumed with five laps to go and Nester continued his domination. Nester grabbed the win and the rest of the top ten were Jones, Brooks, #3 Ben Raber, #7 Scott Tomasik, #99 Steve Foster, Eddy, Curry and #43 Ken O’Conner.

The Young Guns feature rolled next with #32 Gabe Ensing and #16 Kelsey Steele leading the field to green. Three laps in, Steele was making a charge for the lead with #6 Brandon Hermiller was joining the battle. With three laps to go, the top three were nose-to-tail and Ensing grabbed his second win of the season with Steele coming in second and rest of the top five were Hermiller, #48 Seth Moody and #19 Dalton Haney.

The Burnips Equipment 4-Cylinders were the last class to take laps for the night; the #15 of Mel Parsons was on the pole and #28 Phil Speet on the outside. Just after lap 1 was completed, the caution was out for the #13 of Dan Reimersma. On the restart, #6 Ben Kleis was very racy, taking second from #9 Nick Curtis and then taking the lead on lap 3. Kleis started to check out, but #100 Jason Scheid reeled him in, but was unable to catch him. Kleis visited Victory Lane again and completing the top ten were Scheid, #10 Kyle Hamm, Reimersma, #7 Ryan Hamm, Curtis, #024 Cole Roelofs, #19 Dave Avink, Parsons and #51 Brad Hastings. Placing in the B feature were #29 John Norder, #80 Daryl Davis, #07 Clayton Brown, #1 Brett DeKraker and #7 Brian Kennedy.

Next Saturday, July 11 is Coors Light Late Model Night. The Late Models will be racing for 75 laps and joining them will be the Engine Pro Super Stocks and Kerkstra Services Pro Stocks. Admission for adults will be $12 and, as always, kids 6-12 are $5 while children 5 and under are free. Pit passes for those 14 and older will be $25 and the first race starts at 7:00 p.m.
