MARNE -- Fans gathered on the Berlin Raceway frontstretch, taking photographs of the burnout circles Kyle Busch had spun earlier Wednesday night.
Consider it Busch’s idea of a business card, and he has left them on tracks all over the country.
Busch, a 26-year old Las Vegas native, returned to the Marne half-mile oval and took top honors in the Rowdy 251 CRA Super Series race before approximately 3,000 fans. It was a replay of last year in which the race named in Busch's honor was rained out on Tuesday, before Busch returned to win on Wednesday.
A year ago, Busch, who is fourth in the NASCAR Sprint Cup point standings, held off teenager Chase Elliott. This time, he escaped from a pair of former Berlin track champions in Johnny Benson Jr. of Grand Rapids and Tim DeVos of Rockford in the final five laps.
"I was trying all I had there at the end of the race, and I felt like I was giving up a little bit of time," said Busch, who headed out of Marne moments after celebrating in Victory Lane to catch a plane for California. He is racing in Sunday’s NASCAR Sprint Cup race at Sonoma.
"Johnny was right there, lurking in the wings and he was going to pounce at any moment. It’s cool to be able to race against guys here like (Benson) and Brian Campbell and Johnny VanDoorn."
Busch, who set fast time, and VanDoorn, the two-time defending CRA champion from Coopersville, had the dominant cars Wednesday. Busch took command on lap 193 and continued to lead until caution waved on lap 238.
There were only five cars on the lead lap at that point, and VanDoorn reclaimed the lead when Busch and the other three lead-lap drivers pitted for fresh tires. Busch drove past VanDoorn on the lap 246 restart, while VanDoorn and Benson eventually tangled, eliminating VanDoorn from the race.
CRA rules call for its races to run the final five laps under green, but Benson could do nothing with Busch once the race resumed. Busch beat out Benson by 0.897 seconds.
Busch’s green-and-black No. 51 template body Late Model was sponsored by Flexco, a Grand Rapids-based company that also supports Busch in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series.
"This is a brand new race car right out of the stable, and she wins the race," said Busch, who collected $15,000 for the victory. "That’s pretty cool.
"It’s fun to come out to Berlin Raceway. It’s a great place to race. We can’t do it without the fan support. We appreciate them, (Berlin operator) Mike (Blackmer) and everybody at Berlin Raceway to help us out. I can’t say enough about my guys from Flexco. These guys do such a great job supporting our Truck program, too."
Benson was making only his second start in the No. 21 Racingawareness.com Late Model. He qualified 16th in the 32-car field, but he patiently worked his way into contention in a race that was slowed nine times for 42 laps for caution. It also was red-flagged twice.
"Kyle was pretty good," said Benson, who also plans to run in Berlin’s Boyne Machine Super Late division Saturday night. "I was hoping to get to second and then maybe have a shot at him. But his car was really good all day long and ours was good enough for about fifth. A couple of guys had some misfortunes, so we lucked out being in a good spot. But I really didn’t have anything there for Kyle.
"We had a little deal there with (VanDoorn) where we got hooked together and spun. I was like, ‘This isn’t going to be good.'"

Coopersville's Johnny VanDoorn rowdy after missing chance at victory at Berlin
By Jeff Chaney | The Grand Rapids Press MLive.com
MARNE -- Johnny VanDoorn was in position to win the Rowdy 251 at Berlin Raceway on Wednesday night.
Then, things went bad for the Coopersville driver with four laps to go in the Champion Racing Association Super Series race.
Racing in second place behind Kyle Busch on a restart on lap 246 of the 251-lap race, Grand Rapids’ Johnny Benson ran up the rear end of VanDoorn, causing him to spin out and hit the wall on turn one.
That sent VanDoorn to the pits, and wondering what might have happened.
"It is pretty clear why Benson doesn’t have a truck ride," VanDoorn said. "He blew right up my ass going into the corner. I’d say that wreck was his fault.
"I’m pretty disappointed, but I guess that’s the way it goes. It’s racing," he added. "But that is how our year has been going, nothing but bad luck. It was a good ride, but not the results we wanted."
"We knew we weren’t going to win with the motor we had," VanDoorn said. "Busch was strong, but if my motor wasn’t bad and we could have pitted, we could have beat him."
VanDoorn led 150 of the 251 laps.
"We had a beautiful car until the motor started laying down," VanDoorn said. "It started missing real bad 80 laps back."
JORDAN DAHLKE has enjoyed the month of June. The 19-year-old Middleville driver won his second feature of the month in the USA Modified Series on Wednesday night. After winning June 11, Dahlke took the lead on lap 31 of 50-lap feature and never looked back. "We’ve got it going pretty good," Dahlke said. "We’ve had a good car the past two weeks." Dahlke pulled away from the field after taking the lead until a caution with three laps to go tightened it back up. Even after the caution, he wasn’t challenged. "I can’t complain," Dahlke said. "We’ve just got it dialed in right now." Dahlke then pulled double duty, racing in the Rowdy 251. Starting 29th, Dahlke finished fourth.
BRANDON HERMILLER kicked off the night by winning the 15-lap Last Chance Race for the Rowdy 251. The 18-year-old Walker driver started up front and never trailed in his first Super Lates win of any kind. It was a better Wednesday than Tuesday for Hermiller. "It didn’t feel too bad out there," said Hermiller, who also races in the Pro Stock series. "Yesterday, we blew an engine, and lost a lot of practice time. Today, we were just trying to shake things down." Hermiller was in the Last Chance Race because he missed qualifying by one spot earlier Thursday. The night didn’t end well for him, as Hermiller was involved in a large crash out of turn two on lap 85 of the main feature. His car had to be towed to the pits, and Hermiller finished 27th in the 32-car field.
ONLY THREE DRIVERS led laps of the Rowdy 251. Wyoming’s Brian Campbell led after the first lap, and VanDoorn or Busch led the rest.

Kyle Busch Wins Rowdy 251!
Kyle Busch made it back to back Rowdy 251 wins at Berlin. The NASCAR star put on a great show battling Coopersville's Johnny VanDoorn for much of the evening. VanDoorn led the most laps but it was Busch who led the most important one.
VanDoorn's 2011 season can be summed up in one phrase "If it were not for bad luck, I would have no luck at all". VanDoorn's car picked up an engine miss with 70 laps to go while leading. VanDoorn still managed to battle in the top and runner-up spots right up until five to go. After staying out on a caution with five to go VanDoorn inherited the lead. On the restart Busch made quick work of VanDoorn to never lose the lead again. Unfortunately for VanDoorn a tire going down and contact from Johnny Benson ended Vandoorn's night up against the turn one wall. VanDoorn still would be credited with a tenth place finish in the 32 car field.
Other locals of interest included Brian Campbell and Chris Anthony. Campbell rode in the top five the entire time he was out on the track. Campbell reported to his crew he was just riding until the end when he would turn up the wick. Unfortunately Campbell never got the chance as he saw his evening ended at the hands of Tim Devos who put Campbell in the wall with some over aggressive driving.
Local Chris Anthony put on the show of the night until a cut tire took him out of contention. Anthony finished last in the "Last Chance Race" and only made the starting field when promoter Mike Blackmer enlarged the field to 32 from its original 26 on one of 6 promoter choice picks.
Anthony showed his earlier evening efforts were a fluke and he belonged. Starting in the 25th position Anthony charged his way to 6th place at the half way break while turning some heads along the way. By lap lap 216 he was in forth. On lap 218 his great effort came to and end with sparks flying underneath his car along the front stretch. Quick repairs by his crew still resulted in a 12th place finish for Anthony.
My driver of the night goes to Jordan Dahlke. Not only did Dahlke win the 50 lap USA Modified event earlier in the evening, Dahlke charged from his 29th starting position in the CRA Super Late Model Rowdy 251 all the way to a fourth place finish.
My hats also off go to Berlin Raceway owner Mike Blackmer. Blackmer continues to do the things that keep Berlin as one of the top short tracks in all of the country. Bringing in stars like Kyle Busch and Johnny Benson along with rising young stars like Chase Elliot, Ryan Blaney, and Hunter Robbins is a feat that many promoters would not even try. Blackmer continues to do it year after year. For local fans they can see how good their local drivers are by competing and beating some of the Hot Shoes on the national scene. We are fortunate we get to see great talent every Saturday night. In today's economy West Michigan Race fans are lucky to have a person with such a passion for the sport he loves. I heard Humpy Wheeler say "The way to become a millionaire race track owner is to make sure you start out with two."
Thank you Mike Blackmer!

Jason Feger won the 2010 UMP Summer Nationals Hell Tour Series Championship over Dennis Erb Jr., while Shannon Babb, VanWormer, and Unzicker were the final Top Five in the series points standings.
This season's expected entries are staggering to say the least and are led by Defending UMP Summer Nationals Hell Tour Champion Jason Feger of Bloomington, Illinois. His prime rivals for the Summer Nationals title figure to once again be former series champs Dennis Erb Jr., of Carpentersville, Illinois and Moweaqua, Illinois' ace, Shannon Babb, but there's a host of other drivers jockeying for position in the spotlight.
Current UMP DIRTcar National Points Leader Ryan Unzicker of El Paso, Illinois is among the stellar crop of drivers planning to follow the entire "Hell Tour" along with up-and-coming teenager Brandon Sheppard of New Berlin, Illinois. More stout entries declaring their intentions on running the entire tour includes; Jack Sullivan of Greenbrier, Arkansas; Scott James of Greendale, Indiana (Winner at Cedar Lake, WI on June 17th and Current Series Points Leader). Also Randy Korte of Highland, Illinois; Matt Miller of Waterville, Ohio; Jim Moon of Zionsville, Indiana; Billy Moyer Jr. of Batesville, Arkansas; Brian Shirley of Chatham, Illinois; and Donny Walden of Towanda, Illinois.

Michigan will be well represented and led by current Tinney Automotive UMP Late Models Points Leader at I-96, Brandon Thirlby of Traverse City, Michigan along-with defending race winner, Jeep VanWormer of Pinconning, Michigan; and Brian Ruhlman of Clark Lake, Michigan. Defending 2010 UMP DIRTcar National Points Champion Rusty Schlenk of Jackson, Michigan who already has a Feature Win this season in the 2011 season opener at I-96 is another driver looking to defend the home turf while other Feature Winners this season at I-96 includes Curtis Roberts of Coleman, Michigan and the tracks most recent feature winner, Zack Olger of St. Johns, Michigan.

Sammy Epling and Doug Finley Motorsports Part Ways; Epling Looks to Regroup for the rest of 2011
Sammy Epling and Doug Finley Motorsports Part Ways; Epling Looks to Regroup for the rest of 2011
Perry, Michigan (Monday, June 20th, 2011): Sammy Epling, the 2010 Mt. Pleasant Speedway UMP Late Models Track Champion and a regular competitor in the Sunoco American Late Model Series and I-96 Speedway has announced that his team, SJE Motorsports has parted ways with Doug Finley Motorsports effective immediately.
After Five Wins and a Championship in one year and a few months into the 2011 racing season, SJE Motorsports and Doug Finley Motorsports, have decided to go their separate ways. "I don't really know why, or understand why Doug decided to park the car. We had a shaky start to the season and I guess during the Eldora Dream Weekend a decision was made." Epling said as he tried to explain the split.
"Eldora was one of the roughest weekends we've had as a team dating back to last year. We've had part malfunctions which were out of anyone's control. I'm just not sure." He continued, "Also with the traveling required with the Sunoco American Late Model Series, that may have been more then they had expected. I can't give you a reason. All I can say is I enjoyed my time there." Epling appreciatively added.
Epling's own team, SJE Motorsports will go back to the familiar #28 that he's ran with in the past and is targeting an early July return to action, although if everything comes together in a relatively short amount of time, Epling is tentatively looking at racing THIS Sunday, June 26th at I-96 Speedway in Lake Odessa, Michigan for the UMP Summer Nationals Hell Tour's only visit to the state of Michigan.
"We're just waiting for some parts to assemble the motor that we broke at Attica in the beginning of the year; otherwise, the car is ready to go! We're also working on another new motor so we'll be better prepared for the remainder of the season," The Perry, Michigan driver continued. "There's only two of us on the team now, myself and J.R. Smith, so we'll just take our time and make sure things are done right. Unless of course we can get some help to get everything together for the Hell Tour race at I-96. I regret that I'm missing out on some of the Sunoco ALMS Shows, but my goal is to be ready for the first weekend of July."
"I will have two quarter panels open if anyone would like to help out financially and have their name or names on the car. A Huge Thanks to my sponsors I do still have and everyone who does support me and is supporting me through this unpredictable time in the season. I will guarantee that SJE motorsports will be back and better than before." He ended.
Despite missing several shows of late, Epling is still sitting 10th in the Sunoco American Late Model Series Points Standings even with missing the last two events. In addition, he's 11th place in the points chase at I-96 Speedway and 11th as well at Mt. Pleasant Speedway.
Epling's #28 Mastersbilt Chassis UMP Late Model will carry sponsorship decals throughout the 2011 season from his own business; SJE Trucking as well as Shift Shop Transmissions, M.P.H. Promotions, and SJE Motorsports.

I-96 Speedway RESULTS for Saturday, June 18th, 2011
Welcome Home Dustin Daggett; Total Domination in the ASCS Sprints on Dirt Feature at I-96 Speedway
Lake Odessa, Michigan (Saturday, June 18th, 2011): The Fathers Day Holiday Weekend was celebrated in style at I-96 Speedway as the high flying, winged bandits of the Engine Pro ASCS Sprints on Dirt Presented by ARP made their first of three appearances at their adoptive home track in Lake Odessa, Michigan on Renegade Racing Fuels & Lubricants Night at the Races. A stellar crowd was on hand and they witnessed a nice sized field of 85 total teams in the pits including an impressive 27Sprint Cars!
Also on the card were three of the tracks weekly divisions who race within the United Midwestern Promoters (UMP) DIRTcar Racing Series; The Lane Automotive UMP Modifieds, Renegade Racing Fuels & Lubricants UMP Street Stocks, and Jim's Auto Body of Portland UMP Sport Compacts as all four divisions took on the fast 3/8s (0.375) mile high-banked dirt oval. The Tinney Automotive UMP Late Models had the night off as they prepare for the UMP Summer Nationals Hell Tour race on Sunday, June 26th.
After taking the weekend of June 10-12th off, drivers and teams were eager to get back on the track and the night started off appropriately enough with the Renegade Racing Fuels & Lubricants UMP Street Stocks and their 20-lap feature on Renegade Racing Fuels & Lubricants Night at the Races and it would be David Grega and Hillary Smith bringing the field down to the green flag.
Defending Track Champion and Current Points Leader, Gary Vandermark rocketed from his outside second row starting spot and performed a daring inside / outside maneuver around the first three cars to take the early lead as the rest of the field jockeyed for position around and behind him. Bill Brandt Jr., who came into the night second in the season long points chase behind Vandermark, carefully negotiated his way up to second by following Vandermark by the front row and followed the reigning champions' tire tracks.
All of a sudden on lap 13, Vandermark slowed on the track and as the field drove by, he pulled off and was done for the night, handing the lead to Brandt Jr., who had to deal with Grega as well as Smith who had worked her way back into the top three. A late restart bunched the field up once more, but Brandt Jr., wasn't to be denied as the Lake Odessa, Michigan native in his Zylstra Construction Chevrolet would hang on to win his first feature of the season and with Vandermark dropping out, takes over the points lead in the process!
Grega settled for a hard fought second place finish as Smith finished third over 2010Rookie of the Year Ron Harper with Landon Hidy finishing off the top five. Josh Frye was sixth as Rookie Nathan Stickney, Rich Sweet, another Rookie, 15-year-old Carlind Forsythe, and 2009 Track Champion Aaron Wolf were the top 10. Vandermark and Brandt Jr., collected the heat race wins.
After getting rained out in the series' first scheduled appearance back on May 14th, that race has since been officially cancelled and will not be made up, the Grand Rapids, Michigan based Engine Pro ASCS Sprints on Dirt Presented by ARP were pushed off and after an impressive four-wide salute, the green flag flew for their 25-lap feature with 1999 I-96 Speedway Track Champion Robert Huisken and Joe Bares leading the stellar field to the green.
All the way from his outside third row starting spot, home track favorite, Dustin Daggett rocketed into the lead passing all five cars in front of him by the time they came out of turn two before even completing lap one, and to the roar of the partisan crowd on hand, Daggett would lead that first lap. From that point on, the all-time leader in feature wins in the series as well as a former two-time series champion put on a clinic few fans who witnessed the race will ever forget.
Daggett would take advantage of the caution free event to lap everyone up to the second place and in the end, the Portland, Michigan driver in his Miles Petroleum Group / Maxim Chassis machine would dominate like few have ever seen in track history en route to the popular win. Jared Horstman finished second and was the only other car on the lead lap! Bares was third with Ben Rutan and Gregg Dalman the top five. Michigan Motorsports Hall of Famer Ken Mackey was sixth as former Three-Time Track Champion Brett Mann was seventh with Huisken, Blake Himee, and Andy Chewoski wrapped up the top 10.
There was no Qualifying for the 27 Engine Pro ASCS Sprints on Dirt Presented by ARP teams as the heat races used a passing points system to transfer cars into the Feature as Daggett, Mackey, Defending Series Champion and Feature Winner the night before at Cherry Raceway, Ryan Grubaugh, and Horstman scored heat race wins while Himee won the dash. Tim Champlin won the B Main over Kirk Cheney, Dustin Shriver, and Nic Rogers who also transferred to the feature.
The ASCS Sprints on Dirt return to I-96 Speedway twice more in 2011 on Saturday, August 13th and then in the series' 2011 Season Championships on Saturday, September 24th during the tracks 4th annual Dirt Gold Cup Championship Extravaganza. Both events will again be Renegade Racing Fuels & Lubricants Night at the Races.
The Jim's Auto Body of Portland UMP Sport Compacts rolled out next for their 20-lap feature and it would be Tim Horvath II and 2010 18 and Over Rookie of the Year and Current Points Leader, Rick Peck leading the 20-car field to the green flag and it would be Horvath II beating Peck to the first corner to grab the early lead while the rest of the field settled in behind him.
Just a lap later, Defending Track Champion, Dan Reimersma, who started sixth, had methodically worked his way up to Horvath II's back bumper and drove around the early race leader on lap two. By this time, Peck had regrouped and followed Reimersma by Horvath II to take over the runner-up spot. Peck chased Reimersma all over the 3/8s mile dirt oval, following him through lapped traffic all the while searching for a way around the reigning champion.
Through it all though, Reimersma was able to dodge several obstacles thrown his way in the form of lapped traffic and was also able to fend off Peck and Horvath II and after all was said and done, Reimersma was able to draw closer to Peck in the chase for the 2011 Track Championship as the Ada, Michigan driver, in his Sharkwater Shots Honda would go on to collect his second feature win of the 2011 racing season.
Peck was able to fight off Horvath II to finish second as Horvath II secured the final podium position in third. Rookie Kyle Brigance finished a career high fourth with Scott Rumsey rounding out the top five. Another Rookie Keith Brigance, Kyle's younger brother, finished a career high sixth as 15-year-old Rookie Jordan King was seventh over 18-year-old Rookie Brian Hofbauer while 19-year-old Caleb Schuiling and 17-year-old Rookie Joe Pironello completed the top 10. Kyle Brigance, Schuiling, and Peck picked up heat race victories.
The final feature of the night would be the 25-lap main event for the Lane Automotive UMP Modifieds and leading the 24-car starting field to chief starter, Tim Beebe's green flag would be 19-year-old David Mielke and former Two-Time Track Champion, Todd Feutz. It would be Feutz beating Mielke to the first corner to take the early advantage as the rest of the pack maneuvered their way into position to battle.
With the massive and stout field in such close quarters, real estate was at a premium for the division as from second on back, the battles ensued all over the 3/8s mile which was good news for Feutz who slowly but surely pulled away from the rest of the field. The feature winner from two weekends previous, Jacob Poel, who also won the Michigan Dirt Cup Series race the night before at Winston Motor Speedway, finally escaped the pack from his ninth starting spot and began reeling in Feutz.
As Feutz carefully negotiated the lapped traffic, Poel went up to the top of the track and rode the momentum to close the gap on Feutz. With five laps to go, Poel would find himself on Feutz's back bumper and the battle was on for the lead. Poel did briefly pull up along-side of Feutz but was forced to back off due to lapped traffic. That proved to be the winning move for Feutz in his O.M.M. Engineering Chevrolet as the Ada, Michigan veteran, the 2008 and 2009 Track Champion, would score his first feature win in two seasons in the caution free race.
Poel settled for second while UMP DIRTcar Racing Series Michigan State Points Leader and Track Points Leader, Mark Anderson was third with Mielke finishing a season high fourth over Defending Track Champion, Rich Robinson Jr., who completed the top five. 2007 Track Champion Shannon Fisk, in his first appearance of the season, finished sixth as 18-year-old Andy Galgoci, John McClure, Travis Stemler, and Trevor Sloan wrapped up the top 10. Poel, Mielke, and Anderson grabbed the heat race wins.
The Biggest Single Day Racing Event in the State of Michigan is next on the 2011 calendar on a special Sunday, June 26th as the UMP Summer Nationals Hell Tour for the Tinney Automotive UMP Late Models and the DIRTcar Summit Racing Equipment Modified Nationals for the Lane Automotive UMP Modifieds will be on the same card on the same day!

During the Sunday extravaganza, all three divisions will race on the 3/8s (0.375) mile semi-banked dirt oval that is utilized for the Weekly Divisions within the UMP DIRTcar Racing Series throughout the 2011 racing season.
