Garvey still coaching as well as driving

Davidson looks to stay hot at Five Flags
Strategy has worked out

Chris Davidson makes no bones about.

The Pearland, Texas, late model driver is not trying to keep the secret of his success under wraps.

“I’m not gonna lie. The key is Mike,” Davidson said.

Mike is Mike Garvey, who owns wins in both the Super Late Model and Pro Late Model series this season.

Davidson has leaned on Garvey for a few years with the setup of his black No. 41.

As a deep PLM field returns for the second 100 lapper of the season Friday at Five Flags Speedway, Davidson is ecstatic things finally are beginning to click.

“(Garvey) hasn’t done anything different for us. He’s helping in the same exact manner,” said Davidson, who currently sits seventh in the PLM points standings going into this week. “It just took us some time to figure out what we needed to do to turn it into results.”

Sportsmen and Bombers also will be looking for quality results when the gates open at 5 p.m. Friday.

This week also marks the return of the annual kids bicycle races, which will begin shortly after 8 p.m. Children 11 and younger get in free.

There will be four age groups, and all will be required to wear helmets. There is no entry fee, and registration will take place inside the main entrance to grandstands.

Trophies and ice cream tickets will be awarded following the races.

While ice cream might not be handed out at the end of the PLM race, Davidson will gladly accept a trophy and the checkered flag.

A few years back, the 34-year-old had the prestigious Tom Dawson trophy and short-track immortality in his grasp.

Davidson led the 2002 Snowball Derby on the white flag before tire issues forced him to a fourth-place finish behind eventual winner Ricky Turner, Rich Bickle and Charlie Bradberry.

Brian Campbell Wins ASA Midwest Tour Port City Racecars 100

Brian Campbell Wins ASA Midwest Tour Port City Racecars 100

Berlin Veteran Scores Victory in First-Ever ASAMT Race at the Track

ASA Midwest Tour PR
Brian Campbell had a stellar night at Berlin Raceway as he captured his first ASA Midwest Tour presented by SCAG Power Equipment and Lester Buildings win at Berlin Raceway in Marne, MI. Campbell started 16th and took the lead with 20 laps to go in the series first visit to the famous 7/16-mile oval.

The local stars shined tonight they ruled the podium with Terry VanHaitsma finishing second and Alec Carll in third. Tim DeVos was fourth and Boris Jurkovic rounded out the top-five.

Ty Majeski started on the pole and took the early lead in the main event. Jacob Goede would get by Majeski on lap 15 and pulls away. Goede would hold on to the lead until lap 39 when Tim DeVos, who started 13th, would fly by Goede and take over the top spot.

DeVos would continue to lead while being challenged by Carll. Every time Carll would get on the inside, the two would catch up to lap traffic causing Carll to fall back behind DeVos.

As the two battled through lap traffic, this allowed Campbell to catch the two in the closing laps.

With 20 laps to go, Campbell would catch the DeVos and Carll and go on the inside of Carll to take over second. While still on the inside, he would make the winning move by getting by DeVos.

Campbell thought would have an easy cruise to the finish. Behind him, VanHaitsma was flying and at the checkers was only a few car lengths behind Campbell to finish in the runner-up spot.

Caleb Bisacky finished sixth while Jordan Dahlke finished seventh. Lane Automotive Rookie contender Matt Tifft finished eighth while Andrew Morrissey finished ninth. Skylar Holzhausen rounded out the top-ten.

Campbell also picked up his first ECHO Chainsaw as he was the quick qualifier with a time of 15.853. Majeski won the Top-16 Qualifier heat and Haseleu won the qualifier race by a bumper over Lake.

The ASA Midwest Tour next stop will be on Tuesday, June 12 at the Milwaukee Mile for The Swiss Colony Howie Lettow Memorial 150. Rusty Wallace will make his return behind the wheel racing with the ASA Midwest Tour stars. Matt Kenseth, Aric Almirola, David Ragan, David Stremme and more will also be competing in this special event benefiting the MACC Fund.

Craig Dollansky Wins World Of Outlaw Sprint Cars Series’ NAPA Rumble In Michigan At I-96 Speedway

Lake Odessa, Michigan (Saturday, June 2nd, 2012):

The “Greatest Show On Dirt”; the Fire-Breathing, Winged Warriors of the World of Outlaws Sprint Cars Series made their one and only stop in the state of Michigan for the 2012 racing season to the fast and newly revamped 3/8s (0.375) mile high-banked dirt oval of I-96 Speedway in Lake Odessa, Michigan on Saturday, June 2nd for the NAPA Presents; The Rumble In Michigan.

The legendary Voice of the World of Outlaws Sprint Cars Series, Johnny Gibson got the standing room only overflow crowd of screaming fans on their feet with the often copied, often imitated, but never duplicated WoO Sprints Traditional Four-Wide Salute / Wave Lap and then it was time to get down to business with their 30-lap main event as the front row of David Gravel and Kerry Madsen led the field down to the green flag and it would be Gravel grabbing the early lead while the rest of the field jockeyed for position.

Craig Dollansky reeled in the early race leader from his third starting spot and was trailed by Chad Kemenah. On lap 10, Dollansky would grab the lead and began using lapped traffic as a pick to pull away from the rest of the field. Gravel and Kemenah hooked together and stalked Dollansky all over the 3/8s mile. The first caution flew on lap 17 when Geoff Dodge went end over end in turn four and collected the third place car of Gravel. Both drivers were ok but done for the evening.

Once the green came back out, the battle was on between Dollansky and Kemenah as Defending Race Winner Jason Sides joined the battle as well. 20-Time World of Outlaws Sprint Cars Series Champion Steve Kinser made it a quartet battling for the lead as the four-some had the sold out capacity crowd on their feet as they sliced and diced through lapped traffic while battling for position.

Despite the constant challenges from the trio behind him, it would be Dollansky fighting off all challengers as his #7 Big Game Tree Stands / Maxim Chassis machine would cross the start / finish line first and the Elk River, Minnesota driver would enjoy the accolades of winning the NAPA Rumble In Michigan. His fourth Overall WoO Feature Win of the season. Kemenah finished second as Sides, S. Kinser, and Cody Darrah were the top five. Donny Schatz was sixth as Tim Shaffer, Dale Blaney, Madsen, and Kraig Kinser wrapped up the top 10.

26 World of Outlaws Sprint Cars timed in on the 3/8s (0.375) mile high-banked dirt oval as Darrah shattered the existing Track Record as he won the WoO Sprints Fast Qualifier Award with a lap of a 12.119 which measures out to 111.395mph. I-96 Speedway has only held Qualifications one other time since the creation of the 3/8s mile as the UMP Super Late Models Track Record stands at a 16.255 set during the 2011 UMP Summer Nationals Hell Tour visit.

S. Kinser, Shane Stewart, and Kemenah won the Qualifier Heat Races while Gravel won the Fast Car Dash with Sammy Swindell winning the Last Chance Race over Bryan Sebetto, K. Kinser, Bill Rose, Dodge, and Chad Wilson who all transferred into the NAPA Rumble In Michigan.

Also on the card were two of the weekly divisions within the United Midwestern Promoters (UMP) DIRTcar Racing Series led by the Accurate Engines UMP Modifieds as well as the tracks “Beginners” Division within UMP, the Smyrna Bar & Restaurant UMP Sport Compacts. Unfortunately, Mother Nature paid a visit and wiped out the rest of the night.

Kyle Roberts, Jacob Poel, and Mark Anderson won the Qualifier Heats while Jared Guinn scored the 15-Lap Last Chance Race victory over Ed Reyes, 2007 Track Champion Shannon Fisk, Jeff Erickson Jr., and Luke Olger who all transferred into the 25-Lap Feature. There were 31 UMP Modifieds on the grounds. Rick Peck won the first UMP Sport Compacts Heat Race while the rains came during the second and final Heat. There were 17 UMP Sport Compacts on hand.
