Brian Campbell showed his fast qualifying lap was no fluke as he chased down Eric Jones on lap 17 to make the pass for the lead. Campbell and Jones did West Michigan proud as they were the class of the field for most of the night. Jones and Campbell ran bumper to bumper through the first 80 laps. The fourteen year old Jones faded a bit in the last 20 laps and was edged by veteran Eddie Hoffman for the second spot. Jones settled for third.
Of other notes West Michigan driver Seth Moody looked to move up to a higher transfer position in the consolation race only to get caught up in and accident that would end his evening.

Winston Speedway takes racing up a notch, attracts World of Outlaws Late Models
Winston Speedway takes racing up a notch, attracts World of Outlaws Late Models
By Scott Brandenburg | Muskegon Chronicle The Muskegon Chronicle
Auto racing fans will want to keep Aug. 19 open to fill their need for speed.
Winston Speedway will host the World of Outlaws Late Models special event.
The payout to the winner is $10,000, a portion of the biggest purse ever given out at Winston.
“It’s a big gamble for me to put it on,” Winston Speedway owner Tom Sprague said. “But I think the area is ready for a big race like this. Everyone I’ve talked to from spectators to the racers is 100 percent behind it.”
The payout should draw many of the top drivers from throughout the midwest.
Record crowds are expected, so Sprague is considering installing temporary grandstands at some point this summer.
Many of the drivers coming in could be ones race fans can see on TV as the World of Outlaws is one of the biggest late model racing events around.
The Aug. 19 event is part of Sprague’s plan for bigger and better racing throughout the summer at Winston.
“We worked hard throughout the winter and managed to schedule some bigger shows,” said Sprague. “It’s part of taking care of the race fans here, offering bigger and better events. It’s all about getting some drivers in here on our tracks that people have seen on TV so they can see them here.”
Winston will host a record 26 events this year, four on Saturdays and the rest on almost every Friday night throughout the summer.
Things get going Saturday with the fifth annual Intega Shocks/Springs Player Hater 50.
There’s concern about the weather, but the latest forecast indicates drying out early Saturday.
“It’s one of the biggest races we have and we like to have it early,” said Sprague. “We have it before most of the other tracks open up and we’re able to draw drivers from Ohio, Indiana and all over Michigan.”
Another new event is a Michigan Dirt Cup Tour race on June 17.
The Michigan Dirt Cup Tour has seven events and the payout is $1,500.
Other big events making their debut at Winston are two Sod Winged Sprints and Renegade Racing Fuels Pro Sprint Series races, one on July 29 and another on Sept. 2.
As far as regular racing, Sprague added driver response is up and preregistration is strong.

Jeep Van Wormer Eyes Doubleheader Weekend at Attica and Winston!
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Jeep Van Wormer Eyes Doubleheader Weekend at Attica and Winston!
(PINCONNING, MICHIGAN) The Iron Motorsports team trekked to the Buckeye State of Ohio over the April 15-16 weekend for what was supposed to be a doubleheader weekend. On Friday night, the Attica Raceway Park in Attica, Ohio was the track of choice for the #55 team. Jeep Van Wormer started sixth in his heat race, but quickly disposed of the competition en route to an impressive prelim triumph. The Pinconning, Michigan native later rolled off from the outside of the fourth row in the $1,000 to win main event, but was involved in an early race incident. Unfortunately, Jeep was unable to continue and retired in the eighteenth position.
Next up was scheduled to be a trip to the famed Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio on Saturday evening. Mother Nature put a halt to those plans; however, as the $2,000 to win American Late Model Series (ALMS) showdown was rained-out. Full results from Attica's program on Friday can be located online at www.atticaracewaypark.com.
Jeep and his #55 team will head back to the Attica Raceway Park in Attica, Ohio tomorrow night, April 22, as the American Late Model Series (ALMS) rolls into town to sanction a $2,000 to win program. On Saturday evening, April 23, Jeep will travel back north to the Winston Speedway in Rothbury, Michigan for the annual running of the 'Player Hater 50.' This year's version of the unsanctioned race will pay $2,500 to the winner. Additional information about both weekend shows can be found by clicking on www.atticaracewaypark.com and www.winstonspeedway.net.

Final Test & Tune Canceled at I-96 Speedway. Next Event; Opening Night 2011 / 6th Annual Ice Breaker on Saturday, April 30th
Lake Odessa, Michigan (Monday, April 18th, 2011): The second and what was supposed to be the final Test & Tune of the new season was to occur on Saturday, April 16th at I-96 Speedway. Unfortunately, Mother Nature had other ideas as persistent showers and thunderstorms and a forecast for more of the same throughout the afternoon and into the evening forced track management to cancel the final Practice as well as postpone the American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) District 14 Flat Track Motorcycles 2011 season opener.
After careful consideration, Co-Owners / Promoter, Mike and Sarah Mouch have decided to continue honoring the Easter Holiday Weekend and will take this weekend off while continuing preparations for Opening Night 2011 / 6th annual Ice Breaker on Saturday, April 30th. As for the AMA District 14 Flat Track Motorcycles, which was also rained out last Saturday, April 16th, their 2011 season opener will now be on Friday, May 6th. Every effort will be made between the management of I-96 Speedway as well as AMA District 14 to reschedule the event that was lost due to the weather.
So with the revised schedule in place, the next event on the 2011 calendar in Lake Odessa, Michigan will be the official start of the 2011 racing season as Opening Night 2011 / 6th annual Ice Breaker is set for Saturday, April 30th as the festive opener will be headlined by the high-powered and ultra competitive UMP Late Models in their first race of the season paying $1,200 to win and beginning the chase for the 2011 Track Championship.
In addition, the UMP Modifieds will open their 2011 season in a Big Way! Not only is it their Season Opener, it's also the Inaugural Event for the brand new Michigan Dirt Cup Allstar Performance Modified Tour powered by Lane Automotive, Aeroquip, and ARP Fasteners as the open wheeled machines will be going for a hefty $1,500 to Win as the night will also count towards UMP Track, State, and National Points as well as the chase for the inaugural Michigan Dirt Cup Modifieds Series Title!
The UMP Street Stocks will be racing for $300 to Win and $100 Just to Start! In addition and for this race only, American Racer tires will be allowed in an effort to give prospective teams a chance to try out I-96 Speedway! The UMP Sport Compacts (formerly Four Cylinders / Road Beaters) will wrap up the festive evening as they'll be fighting for $150 to Win! All Four Weekly Divisions will be taking on the fast 3/8s during Weekly competition and in turn, beginning each respective chase for their 2011 Track Championships.
On Saturday nights during the 2011 racing season, (unless otherwise noted for traveling series who will Qualify) the Pit Gates open at 3:00p.m. Grandstand Gates open at 5:00p.m., with Practice (Hot Laps) starting at 6:00p.m. Then after the Pre-Race Ceremonies / Invocation / National Anthem(s), Racing begins promptly at 7:00p.m.

Mike Garvey Leads the Most Laps but settles for Second in VIPER Opener

Pollard Strikes Late in Sidewinder 100 and Cruises to Victory
Late-Race Pass of Garvey Lands Pollard in Victory Lane
By Daniel Vining -Twitter @danielvining
Amidst all the severe weather across the South, it was a clear and cool night for racing at South Alabama Speedway for the opening round of the 2011 Viper Series, the Sidewinder 100. Bubba Pollard snagged the fastest lap in qualifying with a time of 15.516 seconds around the four-tenths mile oval. After the random re-draw, Brandon Odom drew the pole position and led the 11-car field to the green flag.
Mike Garvey quickly stole the lead from Odom following an early caution that saw Kyle Bryant and Anderson Bowen tangle going into turn one, ending Bryant’s night. Garvey went on to lead 72 of the 100 laps before Pollard rose to the top on lap 78.
Pollard saved his car until the waning laps before charging up to the front, a lesson he learned after leading over half of “THE RACE” at North Wilkesboro.
“I felt like I led too many laps last week and I came here and ran my style of a race tonight and think it really paid off,” said Pollard. “That’s my kind of racing; sit there and save and ride, then see what the other guys have got in the middle of the pack before I go.”
As Pollard caught Garvey, he began to change is line, searching for just the right place to make his move. His opportunity came with 23 laps to go, where he used the high side in turn two to make the pass.
“I kept trying to move up to the high side, but it was just so dirty up there. I kept cleaning it off and cleaning it off until it finally stuck. The cool thing about it is that it’s a move that Beau is famous for. I feel like he was riding with me on that one.”
Pollard rode to victory in the car he debuted in the 2010 Snowball Derby. In doing so, he continued to honor his late friend, Beau Slocumb, by carrying Beau’s orange #08 with camouflage trim on the side of his racecar, replacing the familiar #18.
“It’s pretty cool, I know he’s smiling down on us right now... I know that’s for sure. This [car] looks good and he loved it back at the Derby. I hope everybody likes it. It really means a lot to me to have it on the racecar and run this well and put that #08 back in victory lane.
Bubba Pollard led the final 23 laps in route to his third victory of 2011. After dominating most of the race, Mike Garvey held onto second, finishing 1.364 seconds behind Pollard. Brandon Odom led five laps and ran in second most of the night, fighting Korey Ruble late to take hold onto third.
Pollard now leads the Viper Series points standings, 10 points ahead of Garvey. The next Viper Series race is the Diamondback Pro Late Model 100 on May 21st.
