After taking the July fourth weekend off, I-96 Speedway is ready to return to racing action this week on July 11.
The Nesmith Ultimate Late Models powered by GM performance parts return to the big ½ mile track, with a great point’s battle heating up. Rick Stout has a 46 pint lead over Jeff Kohn heading into this week’s action. Roger Wing is 64 points behind his teammate Stout, Mike Nugent is 66 points behind and Bill Trueblood Jr. is 68 points behind Stout. In fact, the top 12 in points are less than 100 points behind.
In UMP modifieds, Todd Feutz has been the most consistent racer by far this year in the mod squad action. Feutz has an 80 point lead over Mark Anderson. Up and coming Travis Stemler, who continues to improve each week is in third place 98 points behind. Jacob Poel, who also is having a good year, is 193 points behind and Steve Shellenberger, who also is running some of the best he has run, is in fifth 199 behind.
Racing on the reshaped 3/8 mile track has been real exciting as well. The street stocks have had full fields the whole year, and the racing as been great. AJ Ward has a slim 14 point lead over Aaron Wolf. The two have battled all year, and it looks like the point title is going down to the wire. Cody Denny is 104 back, Ronald Wiers is 112 back and Ron Chaffee is 214 back.
Also on the 3/8’s track are the Micro Sprints. Third generation racer Derek Donaldson is currently just 12 points over Jay Steinebach. Nick Nelson is 24 back, AL Halbert 29 back and Jason Holibaugh is just 46 back.
The entry level four cylinder front wheal drive road beater division finds John Primm leading Rob Nieman by 32 points. Terry Henderson 59 back, Scott Rumsey 71 and Ben Fust 136 points back.
Plan on joining us this Saturday night July 11th for our regular 5 divisions of racing!
Mark your calendars now for NASCAR night August 15, with the return of SPEED channel commentator and Nationwide driver Kenny Wallace make his return to I-96 Speedway to race. Wallace currently sits 13th in points.
