Curry Comes Home Second at Columbus in CRA Action

Michigan drivers Tim Curry(Allegan) Johnny VanDoorn(Coopersville) and Brian Campbell(Wyoming) all looked like they were going to have a great day at Columbus Speedway when they all started the race in the top five. Curry was the fast qualifier. After the inversion he would start third.

In earlier practice sessions all three drives shared time at the top of the speed charts. That all changed when the race began. By lap 32 Johhny VanDoorn would have his race ended with electrical problems. The same bad luck bug would bite Campbell. While leading the race on lap 66 as Campbell's transmission gave way. VanDoorn would finish 24th while Campbell finished 22nd.

The only bright spot for West Michigan was Tim Curry who battled Ross Kenseth(Matt Kenseth Son)for win. Curry and Kenseth each passed each other with 10 laps to go. The final and most important pass was made by Kenseth on lap 123 of the 125 lap event. Curry would have to settle for second.

The race saw many drivers and race cars suffer from the heat. Only ten of the 28 cars would finish on the lead lap.

Of Note: (Cuttlervilles) Jay Niewiek finished 12th and (Newports) Matt Hall finished 21st.
