Spring Lake, Michigan (Thursday, March 29th, 2012): The 2011 racing season was nothing short of spectacular for 24-year-old Jacob Poel in UMP Modifieds competition. The Spring Lake, Michigan drivers’ list of accomplishments would make for a pretty impressive career on anyone’s resume let alone in just one season, yet Poel’s credentials coming into the 2012 campaign speak for themself.
Poel’s biggest resume boosters in addition to finishing fourth in the UMP DIRTcar National Modifieds Points Standings were the 2011 UMP DIRTcar Racing Series Michigan State Championship as well as the Inaugural Michigan Dirt Cup Modifieds Tour Championship, and just for good measure, he also captured, ironically, his first career Track Championship by winning the 2011 I-96 Speedway UMP Modifieds Track title.
When tallying up the impressive list of wins, Poel scored a whopping 21 Feature triumphs at six different race tracks throughout his home state of Michigan. If that wasn’t enough, he shattered the UMP Modifieds Track Record at the legendary Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio during the UMP DIRTcar National Championships in October 2011.
With 2011 now in the rear view mirror, Poel’s focus now shifts to the 2012 racing season beginning this Friday-Saturday, March 30-31st at the fast ¼ (0.250) mile high-banked dirt oval of Farmer City Raceway located southeast of Bloomington in Farmer City, Illinois as he’ll make the haul from the Great Lakes State to go after a $5,000 payday that goes to the winner of the 50-lap Feature for the UMP Modifieds who will be joining the World of Outlaws Late Model Series as part of the prestigious Illini 100 Weekend.
“The car is looking great thanks to our crews’ long hours in the shop.” Stated Poel as he and his Jacob Poel Racing Team make final preparations before making the almost six-hour trek to the Prairie State. “Very simply, we’re out to win races this year. We want to bring home the ‘bacon’ every week! We’ve set some pretty big goals this season and were taking our program to the next level.” He added.
After the Illini 100 weekend Poel and the JPR Team will then shift their focus to the remainder of the 2012 racing season in the home state of Michigan. Poel hopes to capture the UMP DIRTcar Racing Series National Championship with hopes of repeating as the UMP DIRTcar Racing Series Michigan State Champion as well as the Michigan Dirt Cup Modifieds Tour Champion and I-96 Speedway UMP Modifieds Track Champion.
In addition, he’ll also chase after the 2012 Winston Speedway UMP Modifieds Title and there’s also the possibility of touring with the Summit Racing Equipment Modifieds Nationals that supports the UMP Summer Nationals Hell Tour.
“We’re going after everything we can this season.” He continued. “We’ve got the 2011 car totally rebuilt and are working on the new car. Last year was such a special year with all that we accomplished. I think I set the bar pretty high for myself, but I have faith in this entire team that we can hopefully duplicate what we did last year and that we can do it all over again this year.” He ended.
Poel began his racing career at 13 years old racing Go-Karts on the pavement before moving to the dirt tracks and into full-bodied stock cars in the Street Stocks division as a 14-year-old in 2002. In 2003, Poel scored three Feature Wins and the following season, moved up to the Modifieds divisions where he has remained ever since. Since the 2004 racing season, he has scored 38 Feature Wins in Modifieds competition with 21 of those coming in his career season in 2011.
For the 2012 racing season, Poel’s popular black #82 Rocket Chassis UMP Modified will carry the sponsorship colors of Poel’s own business, Poel’s PRO-ACT Welding & Fabrication as well as 22 Below Bar & Grill, Lakeshore Custom Services, Sweet Manufacturing, A&A manufacturing, Fitness Together, Dura-Tech Racing Engines, Integra Racing Shocks, Keyser’s Port City Racing, Trago Electric, Poel’s Blueberry Farms, Fewless Motorsports and M.P.H.
