The Lloyd’s Glass Double Points Night got off to a familiar start as DJ Vanderley set fast time in the Pro Late Model ranks, ahead of two Camping World Truck Racers, Mike Garvey and Johanna Long.
The racing program started with Bomber Heat action with Michael Nelson and Curtis Faircloth finding Victory Lane. The Sportsman Division lined up next with Points leader Steve Buttrick and his chief challenger Bubba Winslow taking the heat race wins. The final Heat action brought out the Super Stocks, with Lynn Haven, Florida driver Daryl Rudd picking up race #1, while 2009 Snowball Derby Winner Scotty Anderson took the second heat.
The 40 Lap Pro Late Model feature was brought to the green by Defending Track Champion Ronnie Smith after the 4 car invert. Smith held the lead for the first 14 laps as Johanna Long stayed glued to his bumper with Vanderley stuck to her tailight panel. On lap 14 Long made an inside pass and pulled Vanderley along as Smith fell to third, only to be passed 2 laps later by Mike Garvey. Vanderley and Garvey waged an intense battle for the 2nd spot as Long maintained a 10 car length lead. Garvey made the pass for 2nd on lap 29 and set his sights on the 2009 Blizzard Series Champion, making only her 2nd Pro Late Model start of 2010. The races 1st caution came out on lap 34 as Tommy Rollins spun off turn 2. Garvey dove low on lap 36 to overtake Long, and Vanderley followed on the next lap. That’s the way they crossed the finish line on Lap 40, with Ronnie Smith hanging on for 4th, and Rollins recovering from the late spin for 5th.
