Labor Day Weekend, 2010 Results!
The Labor Day weekend is always a big event at Crystal Motor Speedway and this weekend it was a huge event. Saturday saw 138 cars and the Sunday portion saw 159 racers in the pits. Both days of the weekend were sponsored by Andersen Contracting and Renovation of Vestaburg. The Saturday portion of the show saw 32 SOD Sprints in the pits and Dustin Daggett continued his domination of the Crystal clay as he turned in yet another masterful run to take home the win.
Richard Melton started what was to be a weekend long trend as he won the Races On The Web Flinn Stock feature over Austin Wiley, Chance Allen, Austin Bean, Ryan Paradise, Matt Kammers, Chris DeCamp, Derrick Stahl, Felicia Rohn, and Paris Richards. Melton also triumphed in the heat race.
The Engine Pro IMCA Modifieds saw Chad Wernette take home another feature win over Melvin Allen, Joe Fowler, Chad Maurer, Roger Flinn III, Brody Bowser, Josh Borton, Brennan Bowen, Matt Szecsodi, and Greg Wiles. Cliff Denman and Bowen took B Mains with heats going to Wernette, Milt Montgomery, Szecsodi, and Flinn III.
Chaney Newland also turned in yet another sterling performance in the Port City Racing Pro Stocks as he battled from deep in the field to pad his already considerable 2010 portfolio over Mike Husted, Vern Buskirk, Gary Buskirk, Gordon Snyder, Derek Schestag, Todd Bush, Barry Rinard, Jacob Headley, and Rodney Heikkila. Headley and Don Rohn took heat action.
Port City Racing Pro Truck action saw Carl Thayer claim yet another feature win over Kevin Deal, Tim Sooy, Tim Wood, Scott Nieman, Dave Peters, Ashlee Scott, Andrew Fidler, Joe Nieman, and Robert Griffin. Thayer also won the heat race.
The Smokers Club of Mt Pleasant Street Stock feature was a wild one with Brian Williams taking the win over Kyle Prochazka, Mike Vandermark, Jr., Joseph Pomeroy, Josh Sternberg, Brad Metzer, David Grega, James Prochazka, George Wease, and Larry Bulson III. The B Main win went to Kevin Rohn while Kyle Prochazka, Robb Sternberg, and Brian Williams took heat wins.
Sundays events got started with Richard Melton grabbing his second feature in the Races On The Web Flinn Stocks over Chance Allen, Austin Bean, Jason Feutz, Austin Wiley, Chris DeCamp, Ryan Paradise, Matt Kammers, Paris Richards, and Dillon Gentry. Allen took the heat win.
Jeff Kohn came on strong to win the Kentucky Fried Chicken sponsored Late Model feature over Roger Wing, Mark Andersen, Kurt Mesman, Mickey Carman, Jr., Tom Dusen, CJ Reisbig, Jim Fairbanks, Renton Hurley, Matt Beardslee. Heats fell to Dusen and Wing.
The first open modified event ever held at the track in recent memory drew 57 entries and was a tremendous success with Eddie Reyes of Muskegon taking the win over Troy Marciniak, Andrew Sprague, Todd Feutz, Tim Stemler, Justin Fleming, Mike Wilbern, Steve McClees, Travis Stemler, and Roy Harvey. B Main winners were Josh Lolmaugh, AJ Ward, and John McClure while Ray Hutson, Tim Stemler, Johnny DeYoung, Troy Marciniak, and Lawrence Sprague all took home heat gold.
Matt Pickard triumphed in the Soaring Eagle Outlaw Late Model race as he won over Wade Witherspoon, Terry Sroufe, David Hilliker, Todd Pifer, Dave Hartman, Brad Harden, Kenny Wilson, and Joshua Knoll. Harden grabbed the heat win.
The Port City Racing Pro Stock feature saw Derek Schestag bring home his first ever feature win as he outlasted a hard charging Don Rohn. Chaney Newland brought home third and was followed by Gary Buskirk, Barry Rinard, Rodney Heikkila, Todd Bush, Mike Husted, Jacob Headley, and Chad Precord. Vern Buskirk and Rinard gathered heat wins.
Kevin Deal came on strong to win the Port City Racing Pro Truck feature as he triumphed over Carl Thayer, Ashlee Scott, Tim Sooy, Aaron Raby, Chris Rinard, Tim Wood, Jason Borton, Dave Peters, and Andrew Fidler. Thayer grabbed the early heat race.
The final event of the weekend was the Smokers Club Street Stock feature and that event saw several heavy hitters fall by the wayside before Gary VanderMark, a former division champion, brought home the win over Randy Radabaugh, David Grega, Chad Weinrick, Jamie Gillmore, Joseph Pomeroy, Brian Williams, Brooke Ann Brasington, Dan Hersey, and Brad Metzer. Weinrick and Pomeroy snagged B Mains while Josh Stenberg, Robb Stenburg, and Mike VanderMark Jr. brought home heat victories.
2010 action takes a week long break as the track prepares for its season finale to be held September 18th. The 18th Annual Speed Pro Great Lakes Nationals presented by Engine Pro and sponsored by Victor Reinz Gaskets. Pit gates will open at noon on race day, with grand stands gates opening at 3PM. Racing starts at 5PM. Adult admission to the grandstands is $15 and kids are $6. Pit passes bought in advance are $25 and are $35 the day of the race.
