With winter in full control of the weather, I-96 speedway is heating things up, and thought turn to spring, with the release of the 2010 racing schedule. Once again, the track will feature a well rounded racing season, with everything that a circle track race fan could want.
The season kicks off on Saturday night April 24 with the tracks weekly divisions of UMP late models, UMP modifieds, UMP street stocks and four cylinder’s on the new 3/8 mile track. All of the UMP divisions will be running for both state and national points.
Several special events are nicely sprinkled throughout the year.
The Sunoco late models make a return to the track on May 15 and August 21. The series feature drivers from the tri state area competing on the new 3/8.
The World of Outlaw sprint cars make their annual appearance on May 22. The fastest show on dirt will feature 20 time champion Steve Kinser who for the 2010 season, is driving for NASCAR driver Tony Stewart. The WOO will also be racing on the ½ mile track.
Speaking of sprint cars, the SOD series will make three total appearances for 2010. June 19 and August 7th will see the drivers on the ½ mile and on September 25th on the 3/8 mile track.
The UMP summer national’s tour will make a stop on Tuesday night June 29. The tour features racing for 28 nights in 32 calendar days in seven states. Back in 2005, Shannon Babb took home the feature win as well as the tours point’s title. Some of the best dirt late model drivers will be doing battle on the ½ mile.
On July 10th the AMA Grand Nationals return. The Grand National riders reach speeds of over 100 mph on the ½ mile, racing just inches apart!
Two NASCAR nights are planned for June12th and August 14th. Negotiations are still under way with a couple of different drivers.
The Gold Cup nationals will conclude the year on September 25. Five divisions of race cars will complete on the 3/8 mile, including the SOD season championship.
