Joe Bares wins at Crystal - Steve Irwin takes Championship

22 cars signed in for a big championship night at Crystal Motor Speedway. After Steve Irwin took his competition green flag on Saturday night he clinched his second MTS Sprint series championship in 3 years. The rest of the contenders had to battle it out for a close point race behind Irwin. At the start of the Feature the large crowd was wowed with a two car flip involving Jerry Evilsizer and rookie driver Randy Kreple. The nasty crash would result in Kreple taking a ambulance ride with a head injury. After clean up took place the feature was once again under way with Mike Galadja Taking the lead from outside pole position. it would only be a few laps into the feature when Blake Nimee made an outside move around Galajda. only a few laps later Blake lost it in turn one falling of the edge of the banking bringing out the caution flag. Mike Galadja would lead until about half way when in lapped traffic Joe Bares made his moved and took over the lead from Galadja. Defending champ Galadja tried to make a charge to challenge Bares and could not close the gap, Bares took his first nonwing feature win with the MTS sprints and Galadja finished second. Ernie Kuehneman, Nick Landon and Steve Irwin rounded the top 5.
