It was nice to make it out to Winston for the first time this year. It was nice to see some of my racing friends and watch the races with my family. I did not miss being behind a computer or microphone for the entire evening. It was a nice relaxing evening. The weather brought out a nice crowd and the drivers put on a great show.

The late model feature looked like Mike Nichols was going to pick up his first win of 2009, but a caution with 8 laps to go cooled off Mike Wilbern's tires. Wilbern made a pass of Andy Sprague and Nichols in the same lap for the lead and stayed out front for the win.

Modified Driver Stan Dodds picked up his first win of the season as he held off a hard charging Jeff Erickson. 2008 State UMP Champion John McCaul's night went from bad to worse as he charged his way through the field early in the main event. McCaul's first caution put him to the rear and his second caution brought out the Black flag ending his night.

The Sportsman "Kenny Blondeel 55" was exciting from start to finish. Early leader Matt Sprague looked like he was going stink up the show as he had a 10 car length lead after 6 laps. A puff of smoke entering turn two ended Sprague's night and put Brain Juusola on the point. Juusola had his hands full for every lap of the event. Former Berlin Late Model driver Adam Chase raced Jussola door to door on the inside groove lap after lap. The car on the move was Ralph Sternberg. Sternberg became impatient running behind the front two runners and tried to split them going into turn three. Sternberg's contact spun Juusola and sent Sternberg to the rear. Another car on the move was Bean Falbe. After starting 15th Falbe found himself in second with 4 laps to go. Unfortunately Falbe's last turn was his worst of the night. Getting up into the marbles coming out of turn four caused contact with the wall amd part of the field moving him all the way back to seventh. Juusola picked up the biggest win of his career. It is believed to be his first feature win at Winston.
