Thunderbird Raceway: Hard at Work

Today I had the opportunity to stop by and see some of the changes being done to Thunderbird Raceway. I was completely impressed with the amount of work being done in a short amount of time considering the weather. The entire infield is being dug out after years of build up that would not allow for water run-off. The dirt from the infield is being used to build up a future stands area in turn one. I think this is a great idea. One of the best viewing areas on any race track is turn one or turn three. Watching to see which driver is going to drive their car deepest into corner is one of the most exciting parts of racing.

Besides some of the physical changes being made promoter Jon Huston was gracious enough to take time and show my son and my self the new Internet video & audio setup that fans will have the opportunity to use when they cannot make it to the track. The option of being on vacation in Florida or being a soldier in Iraq and still being able to follow the racing action at Thunderbird is something that still amazes me. Thunderbird along with Crystal Motor Speedway will both be using this technology at a very minimal cost to the race fan in 2009.

I have already hooked a computer and used an overhead projector as a monitor to check out the quality of some of the broadcasts through Races on the Web 24/7 . I think you will be pleasantly surprised. It is the next best thing to being there.

If you want to see some of the work being done at Thunderbird they have had a live feed showing some of the work they have been doing during the day . It can be found at the following link: http://netvision.cc/crystal.htm

It appears that the new owners of Thunderbird Raceway have a great passion for racing and understand that Rome was not built in a day. They are on a path to bring back the facilty to what it was; one of the best Dirt Tracks in the Midwest. If they are not successful it will not be because of a lack of effort.
