Jeep Van Wormer Readies for ALMS Doubleheader Following Spectacular Florence Win
(PINCONNING, MICHIGAN) The Iron Motorsports team recorded their second feature win of the 2009 campaign last Saturday evening, April 11 in thrilling fashion at the venerable Florence Speedway in Union, Kentucky! After suffering an untimely flat tire in his heat race, Jeep Van Wormer had his work cut out for him during the remainder of the 'Spring 50' program at Florence. Not deterred by the unfortunate luck during heat race action, Jeep got up on the wheel and drove his #55 Rocket entry from fourteenth to first in his consolation race to advance into the $5,000 to win main event.
The Pinconning, Michigan driver later rolled off from the outside of the tenth row for the 50-lap A-Main at the 1/2-mile, high-banked Cincinnati-area venue. In an action-packed feature event, Jeep worked quietly through the field early in the race before unleashing an all-out onslaught on the rest of the competition. Slicing and dicing his way to the front, Jeep ultimately took the lead from Steve Francis on lap thirty-seven and held the point for the final thirteen circuits to register the exciting $5,000 triumph over Francis, Darrell Lanigan, Randy Weaver, and Josh McGuire. "That was a tremendous win for us at Florence and it has really boosted our confidence for the rest of the season," stated Van Wormer this week. "I thought we were done after the flat tire in the heat race, but our car was just bad fast all night. The track got rough in spots, but at least it was racy, which enabled us to come from the back of the consolation race and the feature. I am just so excited for the rest of the season and really can't wait to get back to Eldora this weekend!"
Next up for the #55 team will be a pair of Sunoco American Late Model Series (ALMS) shows this upcoming weekend (April 17-18). The Attica Raceway Park in Attica, Ohio will be the track of choice tonight, while the action will quickly turn to the famed Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio on Saturday evening. Both ALMS events this weekend will pay $2,000 to the winner. You can learn more online at www.americanlatemodelseries.com.
