I-96 Speedway Introduces Newest Member of its Racing Family, Dusty Dan
LAKE ODESSA, Michigan, March 4, 2009,
I-96 Speedway has searched for, and found yet another way to get our fans and racers more involved and more excited about our venue.
In doing so we at I-96 speedway are excited to announce that we have a new addition to our racing family this season. We would love to introduce all of you to “Dusty Dan the Race Car Man”. He is an incredibly outgoing, energetic, and larger than life personality that will be attending every one of our events this season and from here on out.
“Dusty Dan” was created for us by 1-800-Mascots, a very reputable mascot company, who paid great attention to every detail in his creation process. He will be outfitted in a custom racing suit provided by Leaf Racewear and custom tailored for “Dusty Dan”.
“Dusty Dan” will be a large part of each of our events, from welcoming our fans into the front entrance of the speedway, interacting with fans, posing for pictures, participating in Kid’s Club events, to last, but definitely not least, interacting with the drivers on the front stretch and in the Winner’s Circle.
We hope that all of you will come out to the Speedway to welcome Him with open arms. We know he is looking forward to seeing all of you and having some good fun with everyone. If you are not able to greet “Dusty Dan” at the speedway, you will be happy to know that he will be participating in many events locally. He will accompany our I-96 Speedway house cars in parades and other promotional events. He is even available to attend birthday parties for the die hard race fans and little ones.

MAHLE/Clevite Short Track Challenge Schedule Announced

The Engine Pro ASCS Sprints on Dirt presented by ARP has finalized the 2009 MAHLE/Clevite Short Track Challenge schedule. The MAHLE/Clevite Short Track Challenge is a series within the entire 2009 ASCS SOD schedule of select races contested on tracks 3/8-mile in length or shorter.
The 2009 incarnation of the challenge features eight races at five different speedways throughout Michigan that also award points towards the overall ASCS SOD Championship. The MAHLE/Clevite Short Track Challenge starts and ends at Crystal Motor Speedway in Crystal, Michigan, starting during the series opener on May 2nd the challenge series ending as part of the Labor Day Weekend Spectacular on Saturday September 5th.
The mini-series also makes two stops during the 2009 season at Owendale Speedway in Owendale, Michigan and the Winston Motor Speedway in Rothbury. Tracks holding single events include a long awaited return to the Mt. Pleasant Speedway and the Cherry Speedway in Fife Lake.
During the inaugural year of the MAHLE/Clevite Short Track Challenge featured an exciting conclusion that came down to the final race at Winston Motor Speedway. After the feature Gregg Dalman and Ben Rutan ended the mini-series tied for the championship.
MAHLE/Clevite manufacturers engine bearings, gaskets, piston rings, internal engine parts, valve train components and engine kits. A long time sponsor of the ASCS SOD tour, MAHLE/Clevite decided to step up to supporting the short track challenge program in 2008.The Engine Pro ASCS Sprints on Dirt presented by ARP is in its 30th season of competition. Twenty-two point paying races are on the calendar with three special non-point races making up the 25 event schedule contested throughout Michigan, Ohio, and into Canada.
The American Sprint Car Series, in its 18th year of sanctioning Sprint Car racing events, brings the best of Sprint Car racing to nearly 100 different tracks throughout 25 states and Canada in 2009.

VanDoorn and TenBrink Join Forces
VanDoorn Joins Kaos Motorsports in CRA Super Series

Johnny VanDoorn, who burst on to the short track-racing scene in 2007, will join forces with a few familiar faces from his past, with his eyes set on the CRA Super Series Championship. VanDoorn will be reunited with long time family friend and Grand Rapids area businessman, Jim TenBrink and his Koas Motorsports racing team.
With the move to TenBrink’s Kaos Motorsports Team, VanDoorn will be back racing a Port City Racecars chassis with horsepower built by Baker Engineering. Also joining the Kaos Motorsports team is Jason Sytsema, who was VanDoorn’s Crew Chief for his first late model win at Berlin, and Dirk Redder, who was a part of VanDoorn’s teams from 2005-2008. Johnny’s younger brother Ben VanDoorn will also play a key roll in the 2009 season, handling the day-to-day maintenance as well taking care of the tires.
The 2008 season was not exactly what VanDoorn was expecting.
“To say 2008 was a disappointment is an understatement. The whole team had thoughts about setting records in CRA and winning the championship after our strong 2007 season. We strayed away from what made that season so special-and that cost us. With this new team, we are looking to start off 2009 where the 2007 season ended. We know what works at many of the tracks we will be racing at and that’s where we’ll start,” VanDoorn said. Adding, “We all have the same philosophy-and that will not change this season.”
Looking forward to the 2009, TenBrink is extremely excited. “In 2007, when Johnny captured his first victory in an outlaw late model at Berlin, I owned part of that car. That was one of my proudest moments in all my years of racing as a driver, crew chief or car owner. My goal for 2009 is to get Johnny and the team back where they belong-victory lane. Port City Racecars and Baker Engineering are two great companies with an excellent winning record and we are looking forward to adding to that history.”
The Kaos Motorsports team is currently busy moving into a larger facility that will house the teams three-car operation. “We still have a lot of work to do for the 2009 season” TenBrink said. “We are moving into a larger shop and we are still lining up marketing partners for Johnny’s CRA car to run the full season as well as two outlaw late models that Johnny and I will run at select shows around the Midwest. We may have a lot of work to do-but I’m confident that we have the team to get everything accomplished.”
The first race for the Kaos Motorsports team will be the 2009 CRA Super Series season opener on April 11th at Anderson Speedway.
