Muskegon's Kody Wesiner and Andy Strait of Traverse City continue to show no fear competing at the Dirt Nationals at Volusia Speedway. Another night of making the "A" main against some of the top Modified and NASCAR drivers in the United States has turned a few heads.
Bowyer powers to third DIRTcar Nationals by UNOH victory, takes aim at Monday’s ‘The Gator Championship’
BARBERVILLE, Fla. - Feb. 13, 2011 - Clint Bowyer continued dominating the 40th DIRTcar Nationals by University of Northwestern Ohio on Sunday night at Volusia Speedway Park by powering past Kenny Wallace early and hanging on to win the final qualifying feature for Monday's DIRTcar UMP Modified The Gator Championship.
Richard Childress Racing's Ty Dillon surged to second with Jared Landers, the two-time and defending winner of The Gator Championship, in third.
The victory was Bowyer's third in a row at Volusia Speedway Park.
"The track was perfect tonight," said Bowyer, who will attempt to become the first driver in history to win both The Gator Championship and Daytona 500 in the span of week. "It was fun to slip and slide around out there!"
Bowyer battled Wallace throughout the first five laps before stretching his lead to a full straightaway as Dillon and Landers waged a fierce battle for second behind him.
"Jared has really helped us out a lot," explained Bowyer, one of 12 drivers to compete in last year's NASCAR Chase to the Cup. "This is his race car, I'm just happy and excited to be here racing in front of everyone."
Bowyer was strong as usual throughout the entire program. He was quickest of his qualifying group, he won the third heat race, and finally he claimed the checkered flag in the A-Main.
Over the final two nights of DIRTcar UMP Modified competition that winds up Tuesday at Volusia, Bowyer will have a chance to equal Landers' record of winning not only the 'The Gator Championship' but also five DIRTcar UMP Modified programs at the DIRTcar Nationals by UNOH.

Weisner and Strait Race in "A" Main in night Three at Volusia
Fear The Reaper: Gustin Flashes to Night 4 DIRTcar Nationals by UNOH Victory
Barberville, FL - Feb. 11, 2011 - Ryan Gustin made the most memorable pass of the 40th DIRTcar Nationals by University of Northwestern Ohio on Friday night went he went around NASCAR veteran Ken Schrader in the final corner to claim his first ever DIRTcar Nationals win .
Affectionately known as "The Reaper" to his hometown fans in Marshalltown, Iowa, Gustin was no doubt a dark shadow over Schrader late in the race. First he pulled ahead for a moment with five laps to go before making his race-winning move to the outside of Schrader in turn 3 of the lightning fast Volusia Speedway Park on the final circuit.
"When you can go door-to-door with one of the best in the business that's exciting," said an exuberant Gustin in victory lane.
Gustin's win came just a night removed from nearly trumping another NASCAR star falling just short of Clint Bowyer on Thursday night.
Defending DIRTcar Nationals by UNOH UMP Modified champion Dave Hess Jr. of Waterford, Pa., had his strongest outing of the week by finishing third. Bobby Kitchen of Columbus, Ohio, was fourth while Scotty Orr of Columbia City, Ind., round out the top five.
Saturday night's events will kick off the Third Annual Gator Championship, the nation's only 3-day, $5,000-to-win DIRTcar UMP Modified race.

The Good, the Bad and the Ugly for Weisner at Volusia
Kody Weisner was bad fast on Wednesday night. Weisner was at the top of the speed charts after qualifying groups were run. What started out to look like a great night besting over 70 cars in time trials turned out to be a nightmare. Weisner was fast during his heat race but not fast enough to avoid contact that resulted in him having to run one of the "B" Features. It was the same story in the "B" as contact relegated him outside a starting position in the "A" main.

Clint Bowyer held off Ken Schrader Wednesday for his first DIRTcar UMP Modified victory at Volusia Speedway Park.
Barberville, FL – Feb. 9, 2011 - Whether he’s in his NASCAR ride or driving a DIRTcar UMP Modified, Clint Bowyer loves to win races. On Wednesday night, Bowyer held off Ken Schrader on a green-white-checkered finish for the first victory of his career in the DIRTcar Nationals by University Ohio at Volusia Speedway Park.
A native of Emporia, Kan., Bowyer started the 20-lap race – the second of eight consecutive nights of DIRTcar UMP Modified action – on the outside pole and surged to the lead when Bobby Kitchen, of Grove City, Ohio, drifted up the track in Turn 2 and scraped the wall. Bowyer never relinquished the lead over the final 18 circuits at the half-mile Volusia dirt oval.
Fellow NASCAR competitor Ken Schrader, of Concord, N.C., closed within a few car lengths through the midpoint of the event but couldn’t muster enough momentum to catch Bowyer down the stretch.
“I had a lot of fun, it’s just a blast to come down here and race these modifieds again,” said Bowyer, one of twelve drivers in last year’s NASCAR Chase for the Cup. “This is where I got started, racing these modifieds.”
Joey Kramer, of Hanover, Ind., earned a runner-up finish while Night 1 winner Austin Dillon of Welcome, N.C., rallied from his 12th-place starting spot to claim fourth. Jason Miller of Osceola, Wis., climbed from 10th to round out the top 5.
NASCAR star Kenny Wallace would finish the night in 7th, one spot behind early race leader Kitchen while Defending DIRTcar Nationals by UNOH Champion Dave Hess Jr. of Waterford, Pa., finished 9th after starting 23rd.
