When you hear the last name Grega in Michigan racing circles you automatically think of John Grega. If you became a race fan this season you might only know the name Spike Grega. While John might have the Michigan Motor sports Hall of Fame on his resume, it has been his younger brother Spike who has been stealing the limelight. Spike has not lost a main event at Winston this season. Tonight Spike Grega pulled off double feature wins claiming both of the Johnny Mac's Auto sponsored Bomber Features. It was his fourth win of the young season

Cruz Pedregon: West Michigan Racing

That was not the case last Friday as West Michigan Race fans got to see Cruz Pedregon at Winston Speedway's "Player Hater 50". Pedregon is widely known for his Drag Racing career. Pedregon was the 1992 and 2008 NHRA Funny Car Champion. In 1997 Pedregon became the first Motorsports athlete to received the "Premio De Oro," the only national award for Hispanic athletes

It was very refreshing to see Pedregon mingle with the drivers and fans. More than one driver and fan stated how impressed they were with him. Even though Pedregon struggled in his race car Friday night, he sure was a winner in my eyes.

Jeep Van Wormer Scores Third Win in a Row in Player Hater 50; Eyes K-C Doubleheader Next!
(PINCONNING, MICHIGAN) Jeep Van Wormer and his #55 Dirt Late Model team continued their winning ways on Friday night, April 23 at the Winston Speedway in Rothbury, Michigan! Integra Shocks and Port City Racing, who are supporters of the Iron Motorsports team, sponsored the annual running of the 'Player Hater 50' at Winston on Friday and a $2,000 winner's check was on the line. Jeep won his heat race in preliminary action and later drew the pole position for the 50-lap main event.
The Pinconning, Michigan native took the lead at the drop of the green flag and paced the field for each and every circuit in the A-Main. Jeep captured his third checkered flag in a row and the $2,000 top prize by defeating Brian Ruhlman, Ryan Unzicker, JR Hotovy, and Curtis Roberts. "We are starting to get a little momentum on our side and our Rocket car is performing very well right now," quoted Van Wormer this week. "It was cool to win at Winston on Friday in front of a bunch of family and friends. I have to thank all of my family, crew, and sponsors for their support this season, as I couldn't do this without their help. Hopefully, we can keep this ball rolling and have a strong weekend at K-C."
The Iron Motorsports team will look to keep their winning streak alive this upcoming weekend at the K-C Raceway in Chillicothe, Ohio. The south-central Ohio venue will play host to a $5,000 to win unsanctioned show this Friday, April 30 and a $10,000 to win O'Reilly All Star Late Model Series (ASLMS) event on Saturday, May 1. The pair of high-profile races makes up the 2nd Annual 'Dirt Track World Cup Classic' weekend. If a driver can sweep the doubleheader, an extra $2,000 bonus will be paid out. If Johnny VanDoorn were a football player, he would make an excellent wide receiver. He is tall and lanky, but tough as nails… the Coopersville, MI native would make a perfect target for Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford to his over the middle.
Problem is, VanDoorn is a racecar driver. So instead of making millions catching passes for a living, he is just scrapping by to race his heart out.
VanDoorn has gone against the best of the Midwest and won. He beat out three-time CRA Super Series champion Scott Hantz for that series title in 2009 and he's a former winner of the All American 400 at Nashville.
This guy is prime for the picking. At 22, he's got enough maturation behind the wheel for the big time. He's personable and speaks very well, but he's not outgoing enough to push his career forward. Sometimes, drivers need to be a near, “pain in the ass,” to certain people to get a shot. In fact, we see a lot of drivers get that opportunity just because they've hung around the right places.
Now, contrary to popular opinion, VanDoorn is not necessarily low-buck. He does have a car owner, but he does make his success on a more limited budget compared to some.
This year he needs to continue winning in the CRA Super Series, but also get another victory in a signature event to re-establish himself as a guy who deserves a shot. Overall he has 14 top-10 votes, but no number-1s. He did, however, receive a pair of number two selections.
